Summary

Mason Cannady is a senior majoring in microbiology with minors in chemistry and Spanish at Indiana University. He began his research as a student of the ASURE program (2023-2024) where he visualized the binding of small molecule inhibitors to then design and organic synthesis additional small molecule inhibitors with enhanced properties. Mason was also an intern for the Cellular Pharmacology department at Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) (2024) where he generated and characterized a library of antibodies to promote microglial activity. Most recently, he was a summer intern at Eli Lilly and Company (2025) in the Laboratory of Exploratory Medicine (LEM) where he did cell culture and yeast display to synthesize antibodies as targets for a GLP receptor to help against Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. In the Clinical Neurotrauma Laboratory, Mason assists in the data collection for the Omega study. Mason aspires to pursue a PharmD/PhD with a specialty in infectious disease.

Outside of research, Mason is heavily involved with the Timmy Global Health chapter, where he currently serves as president. This club aims to raise awareness about health disparities by providing healthcare locally and overseas. He has participated on medical brigades with this group for three years to the Mao, Dominican Republic and Latacunga, Ecuador where he provided rural communities with medical access. His involvement shows his strong interest for clinical care both in the lab and in the field.
