Zach Bellini
Research Coordinator
B.A. in Neuroscience from Pomona College
Summary
Zach Bellini is a lab coordinator at the Kawata Lab, where he investigates the neurological effects of repetitive head impacts and explores potential therapies to help protect athletic, military, and other high-risk populations. His interest in brain injury research began after a personal experience with a sport-related concussion in college, which sparked a deeper curiosity about the disconnect between current science and standard care. With a background in neuroscience and a passion for translating research into real-world impact, Zach has contributed to NIH- and DoD-funded studies, leads a pilot project on vestibular and oculomotor therapeutic interventions, and has co-authored work addressing translational gaps in concussion management. His research experience spans blood biomarker assays, clinical oculomotor assessments, ophthalmologic imaging, and scientific writing. His broader goal is to become a physician-scientist, using research to advance clinical care and improve patient outcomes.
