Summary
Kate Miller is a junior at Indiana University Bloomington pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Chemistry, expected May 2027. Her work in the Clinical Neurotrauma Laboratory centers on the Emerging Sexual Strangulation and Brain Health project, which examines the neurological and psychological consequences of sexual strangulation within a longitudinal women’s health framework. She contributes to ongoing efforts to better understand how trauma exposure affects brain function and recovery across time.
She is also completing a current year long literature review investigating how sexual strangulation and trauma influence hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis regulation, downstream neuroinflammatory processes, and the cyclical nature of trauma related mental health symptoms. Her long-term research interests focus on neuroendocrinology, stress physiology, and women’s brain health. She hopes to further explore biomarkers associated with premenstrual dysphoric disorder and trauma related stress dysregulation to advance translational research and improve trauma informed care for women around reproductive and hormonal health.
